Hunter Dobson
Artist Bio:
Hunter Dobson has created numerous sculptures and photographs. Throughout the process of creating these pieces, he has selected specific emotions to portray in each piece. While establishing these emotions in his pieces, he is always obtaining knowledge of ways to portray them differently. He has expressed himself in local exhibitions, which include the “Howard County 29th Annual Senior Show”. After finishing his Visual Arts Associates from Howard CC, he will transfer to Towson University where he will get his B.F.A and M.F.A
Artist Statement:
While I do a few types of art, I mainly do emotion based portraits that are typically very theatrical. I give my models scenarios such as “your husband is cheating on you” or “something/ someone you love just ran from you or fell” after which I capture their dramatic reactions. Which is good in a sense but, also can take away from the real emotion. Some of my photos have true emotions on the other hand but that will be for the viewer to decide which are authentic and which are acted. I use filtered light in order to create a more obvious depiction of the presented emotion. The dramatic lighting I use adds an intensity to the photo and also adds nice bright pops of color.
I choose to portray emotions and I use people as my models so that there is more of an emotional and personal connection to each piece. By looking at one's face you can see so much about them, as such I like to present people with models who they can relate to and in some cases create stories for.
